I always love speaking with people about reefs and living shorelines! Though I usually try to do so not in front of the camera on a hot and humid Florida day.

“The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance’s latest project presented a big challenge to the nonprofit organization.

The 1,400-foot breakwater reef at Eglin Air Force Base’s Post’l Point recreation area will protect natural and cultural resources there from further erosion from Choctawhatchee Bay.

But getting there is tricky.

‘This is one of our first reefs that’s actually on Eglin Air Force Base,” said Erika Zambello, communications and marketing coordinator for CBA. “Access to this site is a little more difficult because you have to go through the Eglin gate.’”
